 Simmons Ranches were established in 1994, with the
acquisition of the original 1,840 acre Headquarters
Ranch, 5 miles south of Burnet, Texas in the quaint and beautiful Texas Hill Country
by John and Judy Simmons.
Our initial intent was to begin an intensive deer
management program, along with raising quarter horses for ranch use, and black brangus
cattle.
These practices have continued and expanded over
the years to include the addition of another 6,140 acres, Mountain Ranch, less than two miles from the Headquarters Ranch. This ranch has also been game
fenced adding to our deer program and with the extra acreage we have expanded our Black Brangus population as well as our Corriente cattle we raise
for team roping in the ranch arena.
Horses used for team roping are raised and trained
here as well. We are dedicated to raising performance Quarter Horses with notable bloodlines
We established SIMMONS RACING in 2002,
purchasing our first mares for breeding running horses for the track. The racing program
is primarily to breed to the top sires in the industry and sell the yearlings before
racing age, although we have occasionally decided to keep a few and run them
ourselves.
We have an abundance of native hill country deer
and have introduced more than 40 South Texas does on our Mountain Ranch over the last two years with the
intent of improving on antler and body size. Other navitve and exotic game
includes: turkey, hogs, and elk. All hunts are fully guided and hunting packages are available on the Headquarters Ranch.
